Senate Minority Whip Luz Escamilla to Recognize Teen Lifesaver
Sen. Luz Escamilla will present a citation to honor Felix Ortiz for his heroic actions for initiated CPR on the victim at the scene of car crash.
Felix Ortiz, a junior at West High School, pulled over at a crash on the 600 north on-ramp to northbound I-15 in Salt Lake City, where he saw a car had flipped over on Tuesday, February 19.
Approaching the car before first responders arrived, Ortiz saw there was a man inside, who was starting to foam at the mouth and turn purple.
Without hesitation, Ortiz pulled the man from the car and checked for a pulse. Not finding one, he performed CPR – the first time he had ever done so on a person. He was able to get the man breathing and was taken to the hospital. The victim suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
Ortiz took a CPR class to be prepared for any situation in life.
